DECATUR — Police said a Decatur man who tried to bite his girlfriend’s nose off during an argument was arrested Friday.

The 48-year-old man was booked on a preliminary charge of domestic battery with a prior domestic battery conviction, which is subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney’s Office.

A sworn Decatur police affidavit described the 48-year-old victim saying she was attacked on the evening of March 8. The woman said she had been arguing with her boyfriend of one year when he slapped her multiple times with an open hand before biting down on her nose.

“(He)... began ‘twisting’ his head violently ‘in an attempt to bite her nose off,’” the affidavit quoted the victim as saying. The boyfriend fled when the victim said she was calling police, and officers said they arrived to find her with bleeding wounds on both sides of her nose.

“The lacerations did appear to be consistent with being bitten,” the affidavit said.
