Police: Man arrested after gun, cocaine found during raid on Decatur residence


DECATUR — An 18-year-old man who was arrested for possession of a 9 mm handgun and nearly half an ounce of crack cocaine following a raid on his Decatur home, police said.

Lamentae R. Turner, 18, was arrested after police executed a search warrant at 9:57 p.m. Tuesday at his apartment in the 700 block of West Grand Avenue, according to a sworn affidavit.

Officers found a loaded silver 9 mm handgun inside one of Turner's bedroom closets, the affidavit said. When police searched the closet, they found 13.7 grams of crack cocaine inside a plastic bag in a jacket pocket, which Turner can be seen wearing in photos posted on social media, the affidavit said.

Turner denied possession of both the gun and the crack cocaine during a police interview, the affidavit said.

Turner is facing a preliminary Class X felony charge of armed violence and three felony charges of manufacturing/delivery of cocaine between 1 and 15 grams and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.

Turner is being held in Macon County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29.
