DECATUR — Police said a 51-year-old man was arrested after striking his 14-year-old daughter in the face while in an office in the Boys & Girls Club of Decatur.

According to a sworn Decatur police affidavit, an employee of the Boys & Girls Club called the police Tuesday to report the incident. He told officers a club member was sitting in his office when her father entered the room.

The father asked the employee where his daughter was, so he pointed to the wall where she was sitting, the affidavit said. The suspect balled his right fist, twisted his hips and hit his daughter in the face near her right eye, the affidavit said, causing her head to hit the wall behind her. Another witness corroborated the account, police said.

An officer contacted the girl at a residence about the incident, and she confirmed what happened, the affidavit said.

When contacted by the Herald & Review, Bruce Jeffery, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, said the club was made aware of the situation and contacted the proper authorities. He said he did not wish to comment further about the incident.

The man is facing a preliminary charge of aggravated battery in a public place, a Class 4 felony that is subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office. He was released from the Macon County Jail after posting $10,000 bond.

This story has been updated to correct the victim's age to 14.
