DECATUR — Police said a 23-year-old man was arrested on a preliminary charge of domestic battery with a prior conviction after he struck his ex-girlfriend in the face with a pistol three times.

A signed police affidavit said the incident happened at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 5. Officers found the victim had injuries on her forehead, nose and left cheek that were consistent with being struck with a blunt object, the affidavit said.

Police arrested the man Wednesday in the 900 block of North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.

The man was held on $50,000 bond Friday in the Macon County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 9.
