Try 3 months for $3

DECATUR — Police said a man who forced his way into a Decatur home Tuesday morning with the intention of robbing one of the occupants left empty-handed after the victim told him he was broke.

A sworn affidavit from Decatur police said the 27-year-old man entered the house in the 100 block of South Sunnyside Road at 7:23 a.m. Tuesday and made his way to the male victim’s bedroom.

He kept threatening to beat the victim if he didn’t hand him money, police said. The victim turned out his pockets to show he had no cash and the would-be robber eventually left, promising to come back and batter the victim if he didn’t give him $100 later that day, the affidavit said.

Police intercepted the robber first, and he was jailed on preliminary charges of attempted robbery and criminal trespass. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
