DECATUR — A man accused of stealing a cellphone, laptop computer and other equipment valued at more than $4,400 was arrested in his Decatur hotel room Tuesday afternoon, police said.

A sworn affidavit from Decatur police officer Robert Murray said the theft was reported from the cab of a pickup truck parked Monday night in the 300 block of East Hickory Point Road outside the Ramada Limited Hotel.

The affidavit does not explain how police traced the stolen items, but said they were found hidden in the man’s hotel room after officers obtained a search warrant. The stolen property also included a Bluetooth speaker and two safety climbing harnesses valued at $800 each.

The 33-year-old man was booked on a preliminary charge of burglary, which is subject to review by the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
