DECATUR -- A Decatur father was booked on a domestic battery charge Sunday after witnesses told police they had seen him repeatedly punching his 10-year-old son.
A sworn affidavit from Decatur police said the child was attacked at an apartment around 1 a.m. The affidavit quotes several witnesses who said the 40-year-old man held the boy by the neck while showering his back and side with “numerous” punches. The boy told police his back remained sore after the beating.
His father was booked on a preliminary charge of committing domestic battery while having three previous convictions for the same offense. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state’s attorney’s office.
