DECATUR — Police arrested five juveniles in Decatur late Tuesday night and said they were responsible for a series of vehicle burglaries and break-ins.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said the juveniles ranged in age from 12 to 15 and included boys and girls. He said they were apprehended by third-shift patrol officers and are believed to be responsible for at least five burglaries stretching from downtown Decatur to the 500 blocks of West Prairie Avenue and West William Street.

“Those five incidents are the ones that have been reported so far, and there may be others as people wake up and discover their cars had been entered,” said Copeland, speaking Wednesday morning.

Copeland said the “vast majority” of the vehicles targeted had been left unlocked.
