Police: Shots fired call leads to marijuana arrest at Decatur residence

DECATUR — A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday night after police said they found nearly 13.5 ounces of marijuana inside a home in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue.

A sworn Decatur police affidavit said officers were sent to the 600 block of East Grand just before 5 p.m. in reference a shots fired call. A 22-year-old man told officers he was shot at from a vehicle in the alley.

The affidavit said officers saw several bullet holes in the rear of a residence and found multiple casings, as if separate parties were shooting at each other. The affidavit said officers entered the home to ensure no shooting victims were inside. While doing so, officers reported seeing three clear baggies containing suspected cannabis.

Officers then obtained a search warrant and found a digital scale and a total of 380.4 grams, or 13.4 ounces, of marijuana in the residence, the affidavit said.

The 22-year-old also had $621 dollars in his pocket and told officers he was unemployed, the affidavit said. During a police interview, he said the marijuana was his but denied selling it, the affidavit said.

He was arrested and is facing preliminary charges of possession of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis and manufacturing/delivery of 30 to 500 grams of cannabis. He is being held in the Macon County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state's attorney's office.
