DECATUR — The owner of a home on the 1200 block of East Olive Street was not hurt after a vehicle crashed into her home early Sunday morning. The home, however, was significantly damaged, police said.

At approximately 3 a.m., a Decatur Police officer observed a green Nissan disobeying a red light as well as traveling at a high rate of speed near Prairie Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The suspect’s vehicle turned north on Jasper Street, staying several blocks ahead of the officer. According to Sgt. Josh Sheets, the officer lost sight of vehicle, but eventually found the vehicle crashed into the living room of the house, still running and in gear.

The owner of the vehicle lived one block north of the crash on East Logan Street, where the officer made contact with him.

The suspect was arrested and booked into Macon County Jail on preliminary charges of speeding, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with damage.
