DECATUR — Police are searching for a woman they say stole more than $1,100 worth of merchandise Sunday afternoon from the Walmart Supercenter on Decatur's north side.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said a loss prevention employee at the Walmart, 4224 N. Prospect Drive, told Decatur police that he followed a woman described as 5-foot-8, 160 pounds and in her late 20s who was wearing a flat bill cap, possibly a black wig, black capri pants and a hooded sweatshirt. The woman stuffed objects into a striped bag with a flamingo on it, the employee told police.

The employee told an officer he watched her for about two hours before she exited the store through the lawn and garden center, signaling the alarm, Copeland said. The suspect dropped some of the items, which were recovered by employees, Copeland said.

The woman also left behind packaging for some of the items as she got inside of a tan four-door Mercedes and left the scene, Copeland said. Some of the stolen items included Hydroxycut, clothing, Q-Tips and a knife, he said.

Copeland said if anyone has information about this theft, they can call detectives at (217) 424-2734 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 423-8477 (TIPS).
