DECATUR — A Decatur man is accused of sexually assaulting a child younger than 13 after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security contacted the Macon County Sheriff's Office and he was arrested Thursday.

Gary L. Boyle, 34, faces a preliminary charge of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, which is subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office. In a sworn affidavit, sheriff's detectives said his computer IP address was used to exchange child pornography images and movies of a girl to whom he is related.

The affidavit said Boyle was using a messaging app called Kik, and six images and three videos were shared by Boyle among seven users in a group message. Homeland Security received a notification from its Ottawa, Canada, Attache Office on Tuesday regarding the Kik conversation. Homeland Security was able to identify the user was accessing an IP address located in Boyle's Decatur home, the affidavit said. Homeland Security then contacted the sheriff's office.

While in custody, Boyle admitted to live-streaming the videos and visiting child pornography group chats where he shares and receives child pornography, the affidavit said.

Boyle is being held on $1 million bond in the Macon County Jail, and has a March 1 court date scheduled.
