DECATUR — A Macon County Jail prisoner who punched two fellow inmates and two corrections officers was arrested again at the jail Sunday and booked on battery charges, a sworn affidavit said.

Jarius T. Fuller, 32, who stands 6-foot-1, weighs 200 pounds and has the nickname “Juggernaut,” according to jail records, was already being held on charges that include battery causing bodily harm. He now faces four new preliminary counts of aggravated battery, which are subject to review by the state’s attorney’s office.

A sworn affidavit said the trouble started when Fuller hit a 53-year-old fellow inmate, striking him with a backhand blow on the right eye Sunday evening as they prepared to eat dinner. He also punched a 61-year-old inmate on the nose, leaving him with a wound that needed stitches.

The affidavit said correctional officer Logan Barringer stepped in to restrain Fuller and was punched in the face before he “wrestled” Fuller to the floor. Another correctional officer, Sheyde Perry, rushed to help Barringer. Perry was also punched in the face before he was able to assist Barringer and several other officers in finally subduing Fuller.

The affidavit said deputies were called to the jail and reviewed surveillance video of the incident, which confirmed the sequence of events as described by jail staff. Fuller was described as refusing to talk about what happened or what provoked him to lash out at fellow inmates.

Lt. Kristopher Thompson, the jail superintendent, said Tuesday he could not comment on the incident as the investigation was ongoing.
