DECATUR — An adult son who called police to tell them he had just knocked out his father was arrested Tuesday night, according to a sworn affidavit.

The 30-year-old son was taken into custody at 10:36 p.m. in his father’s home in the 2100 block of Allen Lane and booked on a preliminary charge of domestic battery. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state attorney’s office.

Writing in the affidavit, Macon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy S.L. Beck said the son had described how his 60-year-old father had “came at him and he defended himself … and that his father was on the floor unconscious and breathing.”

Beck said the father later told police he had been awakened in bed by the rattling sounds of a jar he kept for change. He said he got up and found his son, who does not live with him, holding the change jar and “extremely intoxicated.” The father said he pulled the change jar from his son and the two of them began to “wrestle around” before his son punched him in the face three times.

The son told police his father had hit him in the face first but Beck said deputies could see no injuries. He described the father, however, as having a bloodied lip and a red and swollen left cheek and skinned knees and left elbow. The son remained held in the Macon County Jail Wednesday night in lieu of posting $25,000 bond.
