DECATUR — Illinois State Police on Thursday arrested a Lead Hill, Arkansas, man accused of pointing a weapon at a motorcyclist on Interstate 72 in Macon County.

A news release said a trooper was conducting a traffic stop near milepost 134 at 2:27 p.m. when the motorcyclist approached him and said the weapon was displayed in his direction during a road rage incident.

The trooper was able to catch up with the Arkansas man's vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at milepost 152. A handgun was found in the vehicle, police said.

The man, 57, was arrested on a preliminary charge of unlawful use of a weapon, which is subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office. He was taken to the Macon County Jail on Thursday afternoon. His bond had not yet been set Thursday evening.

Police said the incident remained under investigation, and no further information would be released Thursday.
