DECATUR — Police said they arrested a Decatur drug dealer Monday afternoon after pulling over his vehicle for a traffic violation.

A sworn affidavit said the Decatur Police Street Crimes Unit alerted members of the police Community Action Team who stopped the man’s vehicle in the 900 block of West Wood Street.

Writing in the affidavit, Decatur Police Officer Lawrence Petrey said the 21-year-old driver said he had cannabis in the vehicle and officers found a 26-gram bag. They also found a digital scale and the man to be in possession of more than $980.

“Through my training and experience as a police officer, I know subjects who sell cannabis will often have a digital scale with them to weigh their product prior to distribution. (The man) admitted to the cannabis and scale belonging to him, but denied all allegations of distribution,’ added Petrey.

The man was booked on a preliminary charge of the manufacture/delivery of cannabis; preliminary charges are subject to review by the state attorney's office.

Macon County Jail records show him released from custody after posting $10,000 bail.
