DECATUR — An ex-boyfriend who resented losing his girlfriend took a shot at her Monday evening, according to police reports.

The bullet struck the driver’s door of the 26-year-old victim while she was parked in her vehicle but she was uninjured, according to Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland with Decatur Police.

Copeland said the woman and 32-year-old man had dated for nine months before breaking up four days before the shooting incident. She was leaving the driveway of her home around 4:55 p.m. Monday when the man suddenly pulled up in his own vehicle. Copeland said the woman drove off, not wanting a confrontation, but was tailed by the man.

“He followed her to the 1700 block of East Lincoln Avenue where she pulled over and he pulled up and said something to the effect of ‘You want me to act stupid? Then I can act stupid’, and then he pointed a gun at her vehicle and fired before driving off.”

The man is being sought on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a felon.
