ARGENTA — The Macon County Sheriff's Office said a man was arrested late Wednesday afternoon after fleeing on foot from a traffic stop on Interstate 72 near mile marker 152, which is the westbound rest area.

Lt. Jamie Belcher said the traffic stop was initiated at about 2 p.m. A detective assigned to a Decatur police and sheriff's office joint task force for drug interception stopped a white Ford Edge in the interstate, Belcher said, and the man fled the scene and ran into a wooded area just north of the rest area.

Belcher said the subject was located and taken into custody at about 5:40 p.m. in a rural area within the 10400 block of Parr Road in Argenta. He said no injuries were reported at the scene, but paramedics were requested to check the subject for heat exhaustion.

In addition to sheriff's deputies, Belcher said the Decatur Police Department, Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Police assisted with the manhunt.

The man will be held in the Macon County Jail on Wednesday, Belcher said.
