DECATUR — Police said a vacant Decatur Housing Authority home had been broken into and a number of holes were punched through drywall that left a damage bill estimated at more than $2,000.

Detective Sgt. Christopher Copeland said the damage to the property in the 1000 block of West Macon Street was done sometime between Wednesday and Sunday, when it was discovered.

“It appears people had been hanging around in there, maybe squatting,” said Copeland. “The damage just looks like it was done maliciously, for the sake of it.”
