MOUNT ZION — The Mount Zion resident who died in an early Saturday morning motorcycle crash near Turpin Road and Elwin Blacktop has been identified as 20-year-old Austin Ray.

A preliminary investigation from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office said Ray was last seen leaving a residence on Turpin Road about 1 a.m. He traveled along a field access road before eventually crashing into a bank of trees and into the creek.

When friends and relatives realized he had not made it to his residence, they began searching the area along the creek near Fuyao Glass Illinois. They discovered the crash at 1:30 p.m.

A preliminary report from Macon County Coroner Michael Day said Ray died as a result of massive head trauma.
