OREANA — Macon County sheriff's deputies arrested a 32-year-old man Sunday after finding over 7 ounces of cannabis in his backpack.

A sworn affidavit said at 5:09 p.m., deputies were sent to the 100 block of South East Street in Oreana to check the welfare of the suspect, but located him in the 200 block of West Bower Street.

One sheriff's deputy saw a glass pipe in the front pocket of the man, according to the sworn affidavit. The suspect told the deputies he used it to smoke "pot," the court document said.

The sworn affidavit said the man had a backpack with him, which they searched and found 205.8 grams, or 7.25 ounces, of cannabis inside.

The suspect was arrested and is facing preliminary charges of possession of 100 to 500 grams of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. All preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.

The man was booked into the Macon County Jail and is being held in lieu of $3,000.
