DECATUR — A Decatur woman and her son escaped injury Wednesday evening when their home was struck by a bullet.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland with the Decatur Police Department said patrol officers had been sent to the area of 16th and Whitmer streets at 6:40 p.m. on reports of shots fired. They found damage left by a bullet in the siding of the 47-year-old woman’s home in the 1500 block of East Whitmer.

“The officers made contact with her and she said she heard a single gunshot outside, sounding like it was coming from the area of 16th and Whitmer streets,” said Copeland. “Neither she or her son who resides with her were struck by any projectiles.”

Police found no shell casings or other signs of damage and have no information on suspects.
