DECATUR — A 49-year-old woman who told police she had been attacked on the dance floor of a Decatur nightclub told police she will now need surgery to repair a broken left thumb she suffered in the beating.

A sworn Decatur Police affidavit about the incident, which happened around 5 p.m. Saturday at the Flashback Lounge, said one of her assailants, a 40-year-old woman, had been found and arrested Sunday night. She was booked on preliminary charges of mob action and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm; all preliminary charges are subject to review by the state attorney’s office.

The affidavit said the victim told police she was dancing at the club when she thought she heard her name being called by a woman standing nearby. She approached the woman and asked if she had spoken to her but was rudely told that she had not done so.

As the victim walked away, the 40-year-old had approached and thrown a drink in her face. She was then joined by the woman the victim had spoken to and another unidentified woman and said they all began punching her multiple times in the face.

“At some point (the victim) ended up on the ground with (the arrested woman) and the two unidentified suspects on top of her,” said the affidavit. “(The victim) advised patrons in the bar pulled (the arrested woman) and the two unidentified suspects off of her and escorted her outside the building.”

The victim went to a hospital and was treated for her injuries. Interviewed by police later, she said she was told she needed surgery for the thumb injury.

Macon County Jail Records show the arrested woman was released after posting $20,000 bail. She is ordered to stay away from the victim and the Flashback Lounge.

A person identified as a manager at the Flashback Lounge said Monday that the business would have no comment on the incident.
