DECATUR — A 16-year-old male was arrested Monday in connection to a motor vehicle theft, police said.

The owner of a 2004 Chevy Impala reported his vehicle as missing, and the police were able to locate the car, Decatur police Sgt. David Pruitt said.

The 16-year-old was found with the vehicle on the city's southeast side. He was arrested and now faces a preliminary charge of motor vehicle theft, police said. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State's Attorney's Office.

Pruitt advised owners to not leave their running cars unattended as they warm up on cold mornings. He also encouraged owners to lock their cars and keep spare keys elsewhere.
