DECATUR — Arthur Elwood Smith 95, of Decatur, IL went to be with Jesus on Saturday, October 19, 2019.
Arthur was born December 23, 1923, in Christian County, IL the son of William and Edna (Dively) Smith. He married Helen Anna Riddle on August 5, 1943, in Decatur, IL. She was the love of his life. They were blessed with seventy-six years of marriage and four children: Art Jr., Ann, Linda, and Ron. Art was employed by the Norfolk Southern Railway (Wabash) as a Carman for thirty-three years. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Parkway Church of the Nazarene. He was a very proud WWII Navy Veteran serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing as well as woodworking in his garage. He made many crafts for his family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. We called him “the puzzle man.”
He is survived by his wife: Helen; daughter: Linda Riley (Monte) of Mt. Zion; son: Ronald Smith (Rhonda) of Stonington; nine grandchildren: Shellie, Angie, Ronnie, Terry, Joel, Laura, Anna, Ashley, and Nathan; and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, son: Art Jr.; daughter: Frances Ann Campbell; brothers: Bob and Cecil; sisters: Gladys, Mildred and Evelyn.
We love you so much Dad and we will miss you every day of our lives.

A service to celebrate Arthur's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time, Tuesday morning at the funeral home. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard and the US Navy Honors Team.
