DECATUR — The Decatur Fire Department responded to a fire Wednesday morning a little more than 24 hours after a previous call at the same apartment.

The second fire at 1760 S. Fairview Ave. was reported at 1:17 a.m. Wednesday. The female tenant was able to return to the apartment after the fire at 11:06 p.m. Monday. The causes of the fires are under investigation, Fire Inspector Mike Wigginton said.

The first fire was extinguished near a bedroom door, Wiggington said, and the second fire began in the living room with a pile of clothing and other items.

After the second fire, the tenant was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation, Wiggington said.

The same two neighbors who helped to put out original fire were again able to extinguish the second fire before the fire department arrived, Wigginton said.
