Board meeting at Eisenhower

The Decatur Board of Education's meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27 will be held at Eisenhower High School, 1200 s. 16th St.

Closed executive session will begin at 5 p.m. and the open session at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Antioch Missionary Baptist workshop

The annual student workshop for students in fifth grade through high school will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 16 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 530 W. Mound Road, Decatur.

Speakers will include Decatur school board member Courtney Carson; Jarod Oldham, basketball coach at Johns Hill Magnet School; and Tiffany Jones, counselor at Durfee Magnet School. The featured speaker is Marcus Phillips, admissions counselor at the University of Iowa.

The workshop's aim is to motivate students to strive for academic excellence and give them tools for success. It is open to any student in fifth through 12th grades.

Call (217) 875-1730 between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays to register. The workshop is free.

DECATUR

Free hockey at civic center

Elementary school students can try hockey for free 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at the Decatur Civic Center.

Wear gloves and bring a bicycle helmet if you have one. Meet in the lobby, and Decatur Youth Hockey Association coaches and skaters will assist with getting kids on and off the ice.
