DECATUR – “Don't Forget Me,” a film about autism in children by Decatur native Jackie Spinner, will be shown at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Decatur Public Library.
The documentary showcases the challenges faced by Moroccan parents and children dealing with autism and the country's system that prevents such children from being educated. It was inspired by Spinner's two sons, adopted from Morocco when they were infants. Both boys have autism. Spinner returned to Morocco with her sons in 2017 to make the documentary, which was produced by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. She is an editor at Gateway Journalism Review and associate professor at Columbia College, Chicago.
