Millikin University

Pam Lindsey, associate professor and director of the School of Nursing at Millikin University, has been named interim dean of the College of Professional Studies.

She succeeds Deborah Slayton, who served as dean until her retirement on July 31.

Lindsey has been with Millikin since 2010 and is a registered nurse with a background in psychiatric and mental health nursing. She has 23 years of experience in higher education and previously served on the faculty at Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing. She holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology and sociology from Illinois State University, a diploma in nursing from the Mennonite School of Nursing, a master's in psychiatric nursing from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a doctor of nursing science degree from Rush University.

Decatur schools

Sports physicals will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at MacArthur High School, 1499 W. Grand Ave., in the athletic trainer's office. All middle and high school students planning to participate in sports must have an exam.

Cost is $25, cash or check only. No public aid will be accepted. Make checks payable to Decatur Memorial Hospital.

The sports physical does not take the place of the ninth grade physical required for incoming freshmen.

Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of Illinois will host Teacher Appreciation Night 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

Teachers can learn about ways to enhance students' experiences with community organizations and scholarships. The event is adults-only and is free, but pre-registration is required. Attending is also good for professional development credit.
