The Decatur Audubon Society and Macon County Conservation District will celebrate Earth Day with the annual Festival of Spring and Sangamon River Cleanup. A full day of activities is planned for this Saturday, April 21, at Rock Springs Conservation Area in Decatur.
Visitors can meet with experts at the information shelter on the parking lot at 8 a.m. for an introduction to wild bird banding or a walk on the trails. River cleanup volunteers can register at 9:30 a.m. and work from 10 until noon. Some gloves and trash bags will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own and plan to get wet and muddy.
Food and drinks will be available, and family activities are planned from noon until 4 p.m., including visits with farm animal babies, a canoe rodeo, raptor shows, games and prizes. Most activities are free. Visitors may take out a canoe or ride a pony for a small fee. For more information and a complete schedule, visit maconcountconservation.org.
