DECATUR - Decatur police are seeking four males after 23-year-old Salisha Deberry was shot and killed early Monday at a house in the 1100 block of Cottage Hill Avenue.

"We believe it was a home invasion but we're not really sure what they were after," said Deputy Police Chief Todd Walker late Monday afternoon.

An autopsy Monday at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, determined the cause of Deberry's death was massive brain trauma caused by a single gunshot wound to the head, said Macon County Coroner Michael E. Day. An inquest will be scheduled, he said.

Police were called to the residence at 2:55 a.m. Monday in reference to a shooting, Lt. David Dickerson said.

Witnesses reported four males entered the house, all possessing firearms, Dickerson said. They were described as black males in their late teens, he said.

One was about 6 feet tall with light skin, short hair and wore black pants, T-shirt and a mask, Dickerson said. The man was armed with a long gun, he said.

The second man was of medium build about 5 feet 7 inches tall with dark skin and short braids hanging out of a hood-style mask with a skeleton face, Dickerson said. The third suspect had a thicker build and was about 5 feet 2 inches tall with lighter skin, short braids and wore a black baseball cap and a camouflage bandana, he said.

The final suspect had a thin build and was about 5 feet 7 inches tall with short braids and wore a black T-shirt and pants as well as a hood-type mask with a white skull or spider on the face, he said.

Dickerson said police are seeking help in identifying the four males. He said Decatur CrimeStoppers will pay $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of anyone responsible for a homicide and the caller may remain anonymous.

Information can be called to Decatur CrimeStoppers at 423-TIPS or Decatur police detectives at 424-2734 or sent via a text message.
