SHELBYVILLE — Brad Phegley announced Tuesday that he will be running for Shelby County coroner in the upcoming 2020 election.

Phegley has served as the chief deputy coroner in Shelby County for the last seven years, following two and a half years as a Shelby County Sheriff's Deputy. He also spent nearly 27 years as an Illinois State police officer with 15 of those years working investigations. He is running as a Republican.

"When that phone rings at 3 a.m., experience matters," he said in a statement. "My pledge to the people of Shelby County is to do the job with the same kind of hard work and professionalism I have provided in my more than 30 years in law enforcement."
