DECATUR — Those wanting to run for the two available seats on the Decatur Park District board in the April 2 election can start gathering signatures Tuesday.

Petitions will be available at the park district's administrative office, 620 E. Riverside Ave., beginning at 7:30 a.m. Candidates must collect the signatures of 236 registered voters. 

The park district's board of commissioners is a legislative body that approves basic policy for the district in addition to controlling and planning its future activities. The two people elected to the board will serve six-year terms. 

A candidate must be a U.S. citizen, registered voter, age 18 or older and must have lived within the park district boundary for one year prior to election. Completed petitions can be filed at the park district office starting at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, through 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
