DECATUR — Trees in Decatur were damaged Tuesday following a storm that brought strong winds and heavy rainfall.

The biggest damage reported to the city was a large tree limb that fell on a car, said Dan Mendenall, the city of Decatur municipal services manager.

The damage was spread out around the city, he said. The plan is to have it all cleaned up today, he said.

“We had several boulevard trees damaged from the wind last night,” he said.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln received three reports during the storm, said Meteorlologist Chuck Schaffer. The reports included the 53 mile per hour wind gust reported at 6:18 p.m.

The others included a funnel cloud spotted near Decatur Airport at 6:24 p.m. The third was a report of a large tree down on West Riverview Street, Schaffer said.

The funnel cloud did not last long and did not touch the ground.
