Macon gets a Krekel's

  • 0

MACON — Krekel's will open a location in Macon on Thursday.

Co-owners Brian and Amy Ray posted a notice on Facebook on Tuesday that they were taking over Chillbilly's at 232 Merchant St. and converting it into a Krekel's.

“We already have 2,000 followers,” Amy Ray said.

Chillbilly's owner Gary Mathias said he knew the Rays wanted to open a Krekel's of their own, because Brian Ray is founder Bill Krekel's grandson and the four Decatur Krekel's and one in Mount Zion are run by his cousins. When the decision was made to sell, the Rays were approached, who decided now was the time to open their own Krekel's.

The Macon location will feature the same menu, known for its hamburgers and frozen custard treats, as the Decatur restaurants and will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
