SHELBY COUNTY — A Pana man initially reported as missing was found dead near Pana Lake, according to the Missing Person Awareness Network, an Illinois CrimeStoppers-affiliated nonprofit that works to locate missing people.

Gia Wright, president and founder of the organization, said an alert was put out for Michael R. Eakle after the nonprofit was contacted about his disappearance. The network said Eakle had last been seen leaving a neighbor's house on April 4.

Wright said her organization worked with area law enforcement to search for Eakle, and on Tuesday, his body was found at the lake.

When contacted for further information, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office referred all questions to Illinois State Police. State police could not immediately comment Tuesday night on reports of Eakle's death.

Shelby County Coroner Brian Green on Tuesday said his office is investigating a death in the county, but would not confirm if it involved Eakle or provide further information.
