DECATUR — A Decatur man who had to abandon his $3,600 electric wheelchair after the battery ran out discovered it had been stolen when he went back to retrieve it the next day, police said.
Sgt. Timothy Maxwell with Decatur Police said the 77-year-old owner told them the chair had lost power near the intersection of East Wood and South Illinois streets Friday evening.
“He had a friend pick him up and and then the next day (Saturday) he took the bus and when he went by there at 7 a.m. he said he could see the chair was still there,” said Maxwell. “But when he went back half an hour later at 7:30 a.m., it was gone.”
