DECATUR — Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen, 775 E. Pershing Road, has been closed by the Macon County Health Department "until further notice," according to a sign posted on the restaurant's door.
The health department notice does not specify why the restaurant was closed. An employee who answered the phone Wednesday said the closure was due to ongoing remodeling inside and the installation of new equipment.
The employee, who declined to be identified, could not say when the restaurant would be reopened.
Health department records showing what led to the closure were not available Wednesday evening. Records from recent weeks show that the health department inspected on May 29 after receiving a complaint of no air conditioning at the restaurant; the problem had been addressed by a return visit June 3.
The restaurant was also closed for several days in January after health inspectors found evidence of roaches. Those issues were addressed and the restaurant allowed to reopen after a subsequent inspection.
