DECATUR — The Macon County Coroner's Office has identified Michael D. Smith, 38, of Oreana as the man who died in a one-vehicle crash Monday evening.

At 6:11 p.m., emergency responders were called to Greenswitch Road a quarter mile north of Hickory Point Road, where Smith's pickup truck left the roadway and rolled over, throwing him from the vehicle, Corner Michael E. Day said in a news release.

A passerby started CPR on Smith, and paramedics took over when they arrived, Day said. Smith was in full cardiac arrest due to severe injuries to his head, neck and torso, Day said, and he was pronounced dead in the Decatur Memorial Hospital emergency room at 6:55 p.m.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle, and the cause of the crash is under investigation by the Fatal Accident Investigation Team, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office said.

A routine toxicology report and an inquest hearing are pending from the coroner’s office, Day said.
