DECATUR — Employees of Archer Daniels Midland Co. and 28 Decatur firefighters worked together for a little over six hours Thursday to put out a fire at the company's East Faries Parkway facility, according to a statement the Decatur Fire Department released Friday morning.

Firefighters arrived at 10:53 a.m. to the scene, described as the ADM Feed House, at 4666 E. Faries Parkway. Contractors performing maintenance work accidentally set material alight, the department said. Because of the location of the fire, it was "difficult to reach and fully extinguish," according to the statement. Firefighters controlled the blaze by 5:01 p.m.

The fire caused minimal damage to plant equipment, and no injuries were reported, according to the Decatur Fire Department. The origin of the fire was a dryer, the statement said, and the cause was listed as "hot work."

ADM spokeswoman Jackie Anderson said in an email, "Yesterday at approximately 10:45 a.m., a small fire broke out in the feed house at the corn plant in Decatur. Employees evacuated the plant as a precaution. No one was injured, and the fire was quickly contained. We will be thoroughly investigating the cause of the incident."
