DECATUR — The Decatur Fire Department responded to a house fire at 5:55 a.m. Thursday at 239 N. East Ave.
Battalion Chief Jim Ohl said the two-story residence was vacant and appeared to be under construction. Firefighters were on the scene until 9 a.m.
The first fire fighters reported fire on the first floor and going up to the second floor. Two ladder trucks were used to extinguish fire on both floors and in the attic.
The damage to the building is estimated at $15,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to a statement from the Decatur Fire Department.
