SHELBY COUNTY — A 28-year-old Pana woman died after a truck struck her van head-on Monday afternoon on U.S. 51 in Shelby County, Illinois State Police say.

Trooper Joseph Rush said a 74-year-old Ramsey man was driving a Dodge truck northbound on U.S. 51 near County Road 000 North, in Oconee Township, when a mower the truck was pulling struck a guardrail.

This caused the truck and mower to veer into the opposing lane and strike the 28-year-old woman's Chevrolet van traveling southbound head-on at 3:02 p.m., Rush said.

The Shelby County Coroner's Office will release the 28-year-old's identity once the family has been notified. Rush said the 74-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital for injuries that aren't life-threatening.

He was charged with improper lane usage, Rush said. It's unknown if seat belts were worn.
