DECATUR — The Herald & Review and Decatur Public Library are holding a debate for candidates running for Macon County sheriff.

The forum is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the meeting room of the library, 130 N. Franklin St.

Republican Lt. Jim Root and Democrat Lt. Tony Brown are running the position.

Sheriff Thomas Schneider ​retired in September and Howard Buffett was named to fill out the remainder of his term.

Brown beat Lt. Jon Butts in the Democratic primary in March.

The general election is Nov. 6.
