DECATUR — Police said an 87-year-old Oakley woman was hospitalized Wednesday with life-threatening injuries after a crash at Reas Bridge and Sangamon roads, just east of the bridge that spans Lake Decatur.

In a news release, Decatur police Sgt. Tony Tertocha said the initial investigation showed the Oakley woman was turning south onto Sangamon Road from westbound Reas Bridge Road just before noon.

A vehicle driven by a 42-year-old Cerro Gordo woman was traveling east on Reas Bridge Road, Tertocha said, and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. Tertocha said one of the vehicles struck a pickup truck that was stopped facing north on Sangamon Road after the initial crash.

The Oakley woman was taken by Decatur Ambulance Service to a local hospital. The Cerro Gordo woman was also taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the pickup driver did not appear to be injured, Tertocha said.

Tertocha said the Fatal Accident Investigation Team, which responds to serious or fatal crashes in the city, investigated the crash. Decatur, Argenta-Oreana and Cerro Gordo fire crews also were on the scene. Reas Bridge Road at the bridge was closed in both directions as emergency responders worked the scene.

No further information was available Wednesday afternoon, Tertocha said.
