DECATUR — A man and two women were taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital after a fire broke out on the second floor of a Decatur home Wednesday evening.

Decatur Fire Battalion Chief Wally Moore said firefighters responded to the scene at 1355 N. Church St. around 5 p.m. No information was immediately available about the condition of the people hospitalized, who had been inside the home when the fire started.

A damage estimate was not immediately available Wednesday night. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Moore said.

Macon County Animal Control was on the scene responding to the family pets that were in the home. Decatur firefighters saved 13 animals: 10 kittens, 2 adult cats and one adult dog.

Moore said one adult dog died after firefighters performed resuscitation techniques. The rest of the animals will be returned to the family.
