DECATUR — A witness told police that a group of people who were shot at by an unknown suspect appeared to have no reaction, continuing to laugh and talk with each other,  Sgt. Chris Copeland said.

Police are now searching for the suspect. Officers responded to the area of South 23rd Place and East Hendrix Street around 8:05 p.m. after a caller reported seeing a suspect exit a four-door maroon vehicle and fire a semi-automatic handgun in the direction of a group of people, Copeland said.

The people were standing in front of a home located in the 500 block of South 23rd Place, he said. No injuries were reported.

Officers found three 9 mm casings and a Smith and Wesson 9 mm magazine with several rounds at the scene, Copeland said.

He said the suspect is described as a thin man in his 20s, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches, and wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans. The vehicle is possibly a maroon four-door Grand Am.
