DECATUR— A 53-year-old man told police an unknown suspect sliced his arm with a knife during an attempted robbery Monday evening on Decatur's south side, police say.

Sgt. Steve Carroll said the victim told officers he was walking around 7 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Silas Street when a thin man approached him, yelled at him and demanded money.

The victim told police he didn't have any money for the suspect, so the suspect cut the upper portion of his right arm with a knife, Carroll said. The victim was treated and released from a Decatur hospital.

The incident is under investigation.
