DECATUR — Two Decatur stores sold alcohol to minors during a compliance check Thursday night, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Circle K, 3798 N. Woodford St., and United Discount, 737 S. Jasper St., were cited, the sheriff’s office said.
“The clerk that sold the alcohol at each business was issued a notice to appear in court for the offense of selling alcoholic beverages to a minor,” the sheriff’s office said. “The reports detailing the arrest will be completed and forwarded to the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office and the city of Decatur legal department.”
The sheriff’s office conducted the compliance checks at 15 businesses in Decatur and Forsyth with underage participants.
The sheriff’s office conducts alcohol and tobacco compliance checks throughout the year at businesses that sell such products.
“We want to commend those businesses and employees that were diligent in checking identification of the underage participants and refusing to sell the product without identification,” the sheriff’s office said.
