URBANA — Two people were hospitalized after a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 74 just five miles east of Urbana, the Illinois State Police said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened at 8:55 a.m. near milepost 190 on the interstate and involved a box truck, a 2011 Ford F-150, and two semi-trucks with trailers, the release said. The box truck was traveling eastbound while the other three vehicles were stopped in traffic due to a construction zone, the release said.
The box truck hit the F-150 and pushed it into the rear of one of the semi-truck, and then sideswiped the other semi as it traveled off the roadway and crossed into the right lane of traffic, the release said.
Both the driver of the box truck and the driver of the F-150 were transported to a local hospital by ambulance, the release said. The box truck driver was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
