DECATUR — Showers and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Central Illinois beginning tonight and through Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln.

The storms are expected to continue until Saturday morning, according to the weather service, which issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of Central Illinois. The weather is not expected to be severe, but heavy rainfall and lightning are possible.

Summer heat will return on Saturday through Wednesday with heat indexes reaching 100 degrees. The humidity will return as well.

Another set of storms will continue on Sunday night and into Monday morning.

The outlook is for the following counties: Cass, Christian, DeWitt, Logan, Macon, Marshall, Mason, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Peoria, Piatt, Sangamon, Scott, Shelby, Stark, Tazewell and Woodford.
